A microbial reduction is not a blanket safety certificate
Novák, Lukešová, Venglovský and Sasáková’s three-page 2000 paper compares manure-treatment pathways using microbiological indicators and other criteria. A result for one indicator under specified conditions is not proof that every hazard is removed.
The diagram in words: Same organism and method → Before / after ratio → Limit the conclusion to the tested claim.
Read the organism and process together
The paper considers solid and liquid manure and different storage and treatment conditions. Its abstract describes changes in several microbial indicators. Keep the organism, matrix, treatment conditions, sampling method and detection limit attached to any reduction claim.
What a logarithmic reduction means
In a fictional example a count falls from 100,000 to 1,000 units measured by the same method. The ratio is 100 and the log₁₀ reduction is 2. A drop to 100 would be a three-log reduction. Neither value says that the final material is free of every pathogen or suitable for every use.
Do not replace non-detection with zero
A laboratory report may mean that a specified organism was not detected above a stated method limit. That is different from proving complete absence. Preserve the limit and sample quantity, and do not extend the conclusion to an organism or treatment condition that was not tested.
A review card for a proposed claim
Fields: material; organism or indicator; before and after methods; treatment conditions; number and timing of samples; detection limit; intended use; remaining hazards. A real health, veterinary or regulatory decision requires current applicable standards and competent review. This reader supplies interpretation, not a sanitation protocol.
